Vaccinations for The Bahamas

The Bahamas are renowned for their white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. The archipelago consists of hundreds of islands and offers a combination of luxury resorts, water sports, natural attractions, and authentic island culture.

Although many travelers visit The Bahamas primarily for a beach holiday, proper preparation remains important. Due to the tropical climate, certain health risks may occur that are less common in the Netherlands, including diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.

Whether you are planning a beach vacation, a cruise, or an island-hopping adventure, the right vaccinations and preventive measures can help you travel with greater confidence and comfort.

At our clinic in Rotterdam, you will receive personalized travel advice tailored entirely to your travel plans, length of stay, and health status.

Yellow fever does not occur in The Bahamas. However, a yellow fever vaccination may be required if you are traveling from a country where yellow fever is present.

This requirement also applies if you have had a layover of more than 12 hours in a country where yellow fever occurs. The vaccination must be administered at least 10 days before arrival.

Anti-malaria tablets are therefore not necessary for most travelers. However, it remains important to protect yourself against mosquito bites, as mosquitoes can transmit other infectious diseases.

Travel healthy The Bahama’s

In addition to vaccinations, there are several health risks to consider:

  • Dengue fever
  • Chikungunya
  • Zika virus infection
  • Sunburn and dehydration
  • Traveler’s diarrhea

Mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus infection occur in The Bahamas. It is therefore important to protect yourself against mosquito bites, especially during the daytime when the mosquitoes that spread these diseases are most active.

Use an insect repellent containing DEET, wear protective clothing whenever possible, and ensure adequate protection in your accommodation.

In addition, high temperatures and strong sunlight can lead to dehydration and sunburn. Staying well hydrated and using effective sun protection are therefore important during your stay.

We also provide practical preventive advice and assess whether additional vaccinations, such as a dengue vaccine, may be beneficial for your specific situation.

When should you get vaccinated for The Bahamas?
